Vodafone Italia is part of the Vodafone Group, the world’s largest mobile community, with equity interests in 25 countries and Partner Networks in a further 40. Vodafone Italia was Italy’s first private mobile operator. At 30 September 2007 Vodafone Italia had over 29.1 million customers. The company operates 8 Call Centres around Italy and more than 7,000 shops. Since 1995, the year it was established under the name Omnitel, the company’s distinguishing feature has always been its innovative approach to both services and communication. In 2004 Vodafone Italia rolled out its UMTS network, while in 2006 it launched the new Super UMTS Broadband (HSDPA) service, enabling customers to surf the net at speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. At the end of June 2007 coverage extended to over 78% of the population. Innovative services include Wi-Fi, made available by Vodafone to Milan Fair visitors and participants, who can count on a wireless high-speed internet connection at the display stands and in the vicinity of the Corso Italia and Ponte dei Mari refreshment areas.
