The SMAU event - no longer just a shop window of products - witnessed 370 training and information events including conventions, independent workshops, laboratory sessions and arenas, with 600 speakers and over 26,000 participants. Big crowds were drawn too to the Comufficio conventions which discussed the role of IT in the fashion, retail chain store, construction, hospitality and catering industries.
Together with the 51,000 total visitors to SMAU 2010, the exhibition area also increased (+35%), and the number of exhibitors (600, +30%) with the return of some industry leaders and an IT exemplary group; Adobe, Canon, Cisco, Dell, Epson, Fastweb, Fujitsu, Google Enterprise, HP, IBM, Intel, Intesa Sanpaolo, Microsoft, Olivetti, Oracle, Samsung, SAP, Sony, Toshiba, Unicredit, Zucchetti and many more.
Over 100 new products were presented, effectively representing the very best solutions available in the ICT industry: including the launch of the new Adobe Acrobat X and Windows Phone 7 by Microsoft. And note too the 25th birthday of the first notebook in history, the Toshiba T1000 present at SMAU to demonstrate the historical route that resulted in the Libretto W100, the first dual screen notebook in the world.
The 2010 edition has every right to be defined as "the recovery" edition. Now we need to facilitate a cultural change to consent adequate awareness of exactly the extent that digital technologies are able to assist real innovation within our businesses. Case studies in Italian excellence are amongst the best in the world, but they are few and far between.
This exact fact was underlined by the Minister for Economic Development Paolo Romani, during his welcome speech in Rome, and during the opening day by the President of the Lombardy Region Roberto Formigoni, the MD of Fiera Milano Enrico Pazzali, by the top tiers from Cisco Italia, IBM, Microsoft, Olivetti, Oracle, SAP and the Politecnico di Milano School of Management and last but not least by the MD for SMAU Pierantonio Macola.
