Kicking off the 23rd edition of miart
From 13 to 15 April 2018 the pavilion 3 of fieramilanocity will be home to miart 2018, the twenty-third edition of the international modern and contemporary art fair in Milan organised by Fiera Milano and directed for the second year by Alessandro Rabottini, with the support of Intesa San Paolo as main sponsor.
With this new edition, miart consolidates the results gradually achieved over recent years and enters its mature stage. The artistic direction of Alessandro Rabottini aims to strengthen the format that sets miart apart, by exploring it, deepening its potential and lines of development. It is a fair that looks to the present in its many dimensions, to its historical roots as well as to modern experimentation. The dialogue between modern art, contemporary art and limited edition design, boasting the broadest chronological range in an Italian fair – with artworks spanning from the early twentieth century up to more recent international endeavours – plus the increasing quality in terms of exhibitors and operators from all over the world, have made the formula of miart a model for success, where solid market aspects are combined with art research elements. It is a model that has contributed to the development of Milan today as the international capital of creativity and with which all gallery owners, collectors, curators, artists, institutions and the general public can identify.
miart 2018 presents 184 international galleries (up by 5% on the 2017 edition; 61 out of 184 are taking part for the first time, counting for 33% of the total) which represent a broad array of quality modern and contemporary art as well as limited edition design. The number of foreign galleries taking part this year is also up, with 75 – 41% of the total – coming from 19 nations besides Italy (Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Romania, Spain, South Africa, the United States, Switzerland, Turkey and Hungary).
